One Planning Rule: Plan your days by region, not by attraction list ⭐

Start Here: How to Plan Transportation in Jeju

  1. Choose where you stay (North / East / West / South)
  2. Check if Tourist Bus 810 or 820 covers your attractions
  3. Use blue buses for gaps

The most important part of Jeju public transportation is understanding how the Jeju bus system is organized.

✈️ Airport Limousine: Airport to Seogwipo & Jungmun

You just landed on Jeju Island. Now what?

For travelers wondering how to travel Jeju without a car directly from the airport, airport limousine buses are one of the easiest options. Airport limousine buses are one of the most convenient ways to get from Jeju International Airport to major areas and hotels, especially if you’re heading to the south (Jungmun or Seogwipo).

These buses run along a main route from:

Jeju Airport → Jungmun Resort Area → Seogwipo

The airport limousine bus is a great option if you:

  • Are staying in Jungmun or Seogwipo
  • Have luggage and want a direct, comfortable ride
  • Prefer not to transfer between multiple buses

Fare & Payment

  • Around 5,500 KRW (varies depending on distance)
  • Pay with:
    • T-Money (or other transit cards)
    • Exact cash

💡 Tip: Tell the driver your destination when boarding so they can charge the correct fare.
📍 Where to Find the Bus: You can board the airport limousine bus at: Gate 5 at Jeju International Airport

  • Halla Hospital
  • Jungmun Resort Area
  • Major hotels (Shilla, Lotte, Parnas, etc.)
  • Jeju International Convention Center
  • Jeju World Cup Stadium
  • Seogwipo Harbor
  • Seogwipo KAL Hotel (final stop)

Now that you know how to get to your hotel or accommodation, understanding how Jeju’s public transportation system and other options can help you explore Jeju without a car!

How does the Jeju Bus System Work?

You don’t need to memorize bus numbers or routes. Understanding what each bus is designed to do is enough to confidently plan transportation in Jeju.

🔴 Red Express Bus (Regional Travel)

Red buses are designed for fast, long-distance travel across the island. They connect the north, east, west, and south quickly by stopping only at major terminals, while skipping local spots. This is NOT ideal for sightseeing, think of it as a highway bus.

These are best if you want to:

  • Get from the airport to your hotel quickly
  • Travel between regions without delays
    • North → East (Jeju City→Seongsan)
    • North → West(Jeju City→Hyeopjae)
    • North→South(Jeju City→Seogwipo)
Key Routes:
  • 101 — Jeju Airport → Seogwipo Bus Terminal (via East coast) – take if you want to travel to the east coast.  Jeju City → Hamdeok → Seongsan
  • 102 — Jeju Bus Terminal → Seogwipo Bus Terminal (via West coast). Jeju City → Aewol → Hyeopjae → Hallim
  • 111/112 — Jeju Airport → Daecheondong → Seongsan
  • 121/122 — Jeju Airport → Daecheondong → Pyoseon (Jeju Folk Village)
  • 131/132 — Jeju Airport → Kyorae Intersection → Namwon
  • 151/152 — Jeju Bus Terminal → Unjin Port (Daejeong)

Best for moving between major regions like Jeju City and Seogwipo, not for sightseeing stops.

🔵Blue City Bus (City & Intercity )

Blue buses connect cities, attractions, and regional hubs. They run more frequently compared to red buses and stop at popular destinations.

My biggest regret when I first visited Jeju was not researching bus options because I was brainwashed online that you cannot explore without a car. This is why many travellers wrongly believe Jeju requires a car.

Only after, I realized the Jeju bus system reaches nearly ALL the major attractions, beaches, hiking trails that you see on Instagram and Tiktok. So it is very possible to explore without a car, however, the time used commuting is something to consider.

These are best if you want to:

  • Get around the city (Jeju city or Seowipo)
  • Travel intercity and to popular destinations nearby
Key Routes:
  • 201 — Jeju Bus Terminal → Seongsan Ilchulbong → Seogwipo (East coast)
  • 202 — Jeju Bus Terminal → Gosan → Seogwipo (West coast)
  • 240 — Access to Hallasan
  • 300s — Jeju City local routes
  • 500s — Seogwipo local routes

Ideal for reaching individual attractions once you’re already exploring within a region.

🟢Green Bus (Local & Village Access)

Green buses run in small towns and rural areas. They stop frequently and come less often.

🔴🔵🟢 Routes for the red, blue, and green buses do not need to be looked into deeply. The goal is to show how far Jeju’s public transportation can reach. All you need to do is input your destination into Naver map or Kakao map for the best route!

🟡 Yellow Tourist Shuttle 810 & 820 (Best for Sightseeing)

The Yellow bus is a tourist sight-seeing bus that runs through major attractions in East Jeju and West Jeju so you can DIY a day tour without worrying about transportation. Within a day you can usually visit 4 to 5 spots along each path. Take a picture of the map and check times so you’re not stuck waiting.

If I planned again (and still can’t drive), I’d take advantage of the the tourist shuttles, because they bring you to places you might’ve never hear of on Tiktok or Instagram.

There are best if you want to:

  • Explore East Jeju and West Jeju!
  • Only stop at major tourist attractions

    • 1,000 KRW for children
  • A single ride costs (using your T-money card):
    • 1,150 KRW for adults
    • 850 KRW for teenagers
    • 350 KRW for children
    • Buy the 1 day pass if you plan to get on the bus 3 times because it’s more worth it
Where to buy 1 day pass for the Yellow Tourist Shuttle?
  • Daecheon Transit Center for 810 East loop

When planning your Jeju itinerary, check if the attractions on the route are your cup of tea and choose 4 to 5 to hit! That’s usually how much you can do in 1 day with the bus schedule, and transfer off if you want to go somewhere else

How to Pay for Jeju Buses?

T-Money Card (Easiest)

The T-Money card is the most reliable way to pay for transportation in Jeju. It works for:

  • Public buses across Jeju Island, taxis
  • Subways in cities like Seoul and Busan
  • Convenience store purchases

Cost: 3,000–5,000 KRW per card (reloadable)

beyondtheville.wordpress.com

Where to buy

  • Convenience stores: CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, Emart24
  • Airport convenience stores
  • Klook airport SIM + T-Money packages

How to top up

  • Cash ONLY at convenience stores
  • Jeju does NOT have a subway system, so convenience stores are the easiest place to reload!

⭐How Much To Load on your Tmoney card⭐

Load around 20,000–30,000 KRW to start so you don’t need frequent top-ups

Paying with Visa or Contactless Cards

As of August 2025, many Jeju buses accept Visa and contactless payments.

You can tap using:

  • Physical credit card
  • Phone wallet / Smartwatch
jeju-asean.org

However, this system is still relatively new and occasional payment errors can happen.

👉 Best practice: Use Visa for convenience, but keep a T-Money card as backup.

⭐ Important Travel Tip⭐

Before flying to Korea, notify your bank that you’re traveling internationally so they don’t block your card, thinking these international payments are suspicious. I had way too many friends who couldn’t use their credit cards!!

🚎Jeju City Tour Bus (Hop-On Hop-Off Option)

The Jeju City Tour Bus is a double-decker, hop-on and hop-off service that runs on a 90-minute loop around 21 major tourist attractions in northern Jeju Island.

I can’t believe that during my first day in North Jeju, I only explored Dongmun Market, coastal shops, Yongduam rock, and coast side views. We walked and didn’t have much time or energy to commute because we didn’t know there was a bus that literally brings you to all the hot spots in North Jeju.

Best For:

  • First-time visitors who want a simple, stress-free way to explore
  • Travelers staying in Jeju City (North Jeju)
  • Anyone who prefers a DIY tour without complicated bus routes
  • Short trips where you want to see multiple attractions in one day

🚕Jeju Global Taxi (Private Touring Without Driving)

If you want a flexible and stress-free way to explore Jeju Island without driving, the Jeju Global Taxi is one of the best options available to build your own itinerary!

Jeju taxi, jeju global taxi, jeju english taxi tour
Visit Jeju

This is an official taxi tour service operated by the Jeju provincial government, designed especially for international visitors. Drivers are bilingual (English and Chinese) and can provide recommendations or information of attractions across Jeju.

Best for:

  • Travelers who want maximum flexibility without driving
  • Small groups or couples
  • First-time visitors who prefer a guided but private experience
  • If you’re staying near Jeju City

For Jeju Global Taxi price, click https://www.jeju.go.kr/globaltaxi

🚗Private Charter Car

If you prefer not to use a taxi service like Jeju Global Taxi, booking a private chartered car is another great option for getting around Jeju Island.

With a private charter, you’ll have a dedicated driver for the day, allowing you to explore the island at your own pace, and build your fully customizable itinerary based on your interests.

While Jeju Global Taxi is more commonly used around Jeju City, private charter services give you more flexibility to explore different regions across the island.

You can check available private drivers here and compare what works best!

Perfect for:

  • remote spots
  • short stays
  • days when you want flexibility without driving

I split a chartered car with 3 people for 3 days while visiting West and South Jeju. We got picked up at our Airbnb which was in the middle of nowhere, and got to visit specific locations and time out when to go there for sunset.

Quick Tip: If the location of your accommodation is not near the city or a bus stop, I recommend getting a private chartered car or global taxi, it will save you stress and no need to walk in the dark.

🗺️Guided Tours

Don’t skip out on tours!

I took an East Jeju tour starting from Jeju City and we got to see all the main attractions at a great pace without the hassle of figuring out transportation. The guides spoke some English which was good too.

My only concern was that we couldn’t choose the timing on when to visit Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak). Obviously going at sunrise and sunset would be ideal, but the tour brought us there during the day when the sun was highest. If you’re the type who likes to slowly explore a place, a tour might be too fast-paced.

Best For:

  • Trips that are 4 days or less
  • Travelers not renting a car
  • Anyone who prefers a stress-free, structured itinerary
  • First-time visitors who want to see the highlights efficiently

Highly recommend this option if you’re a first-timer or don’t want to plan!

🚙Should You Rent a Car in Jeju Island?

If you want the most flexibility and convenience, renting a car is one of the best ways to explore Jeju Island!

Jeju car, Jeju car rental, how to rent a car in Jeju, should i rent a car in Jeju, Jeju car rentals, driving in jeju, how to drive in jeju
Klook

Why Rent a Car?

  • Fast and efficient compared to public transportation
  • Full control over your itinerary
  • Easy access to remote attractions and scenic spots

While driving is convenient, keep in mind that speed limits in Jeju are relatively low, so trips may take longer than expected. On the plus side, this makes it perfect for a more relaxed road trip where you can enjoy the views along the way.

If I could drive or had a friend who could, I’d choose to rent a car!

To navigate use Naver Maps or Kakao Maps! NEVER GOOGLE MAPS. You’ll also need an international driver’s license and passport to pick up the car.

If you’re considering driving, you can check available rental cars here and compare prices, pickup locations, and availability for your travel dates.

Best Way to Travel Jeju Without a Car by Region

Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls, Korea, Jeju, Jeju waterfall, 천제연폭포

There are many ways to get around Jeju Island without a car, but the best option really depends on your budget, trip duration, and travel style.

Most travelers don’t rely on just one method. The easiest Jeju trips usually combine buses, tourist shuttles, and one or two strategic tour or taxi days.

The biggest planning mistake is trying to cross multiple regions in one day. Transportation in Jeju works best when you explore one area at a time.

To make things easier, here’s a simple breakdown based on where you’re staying or visiting:

📍 By Region

North Jeju (Jeju City)

If you’re staying in Jeju City, the easiest options are the Jeju City Tour Bus or regular bus routes. These are convenient and require minimal planning.

East Jeju

For East Jeju, I recommend taking the tourist shuttle bus (810) combined with regular blue buses. If you’re short on time, joining a guided tour is also a great option!

West Jeju

For West Jeju, use the tourist shuttle bus (820) along with blue buses. Tours or private chartered cars are also helpful here if you want to see multiple attractions efficiently.

South Jeju (Seogwipo)

In the south, you can rely on regular buses, private chartered car, or join a guided tour, as attractions are more spread out.

If you want to get from the airport to East, West, North, South Jeju

Take the red and blue busses. You don’t need to remember the routes, but it’s just to show you that Jeju is reachable without a car. Just use Naver Maps or Kakao Maps.

PRO TIP: For the tourist bus and city tour bus – look over the different routes to see what attractions catch your interest so you can plan your trip accordingly.

My Recommended Jeju Transportation Strategy

Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliff, Jeju Island, Southern Jeju Island, Seongwipo, 대포주상절리

If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing either a private chartered car or renting a car for the most flexibility.

When I traveled around West and South Jeju with a private charter, it saved a lot of time and made the experience much smoother, especially since distances in Jeju are longer than they seem.

✔️ Quick Summary

  1. Want something easy and structured? → Take a tour + city tour bus
  2. Want to save money? → Use public buses + tourist shuttles (810/820) + city tour bus
  3. Want flexibility without driving? → Book a private car charter / global taxi
  4. Want full freedom? → Rent a car

Final Tips To Get around Jeju Without a Car

  1. To make the most of this Jeju transportation guide, start by deciding which regions of Jeju Island you want to explore.
  2. Then, check whether the tourist shuttle buses (810 or 820) and city tour buses pass by the attractions you’re interested in.
  3. For places not covered by those routes, look at the general bus map to see if blue buses can get you there.

You don’t need to memorize every route!! This guide is simply meant to give you a clear idea of what’s possible using buses, tours, and other options.

Jeju may seem difficult to explore without a car, but once you understand how transportation connects each region, planning becomes surprisingly straightforward. With thoughtful planning, public buses, tourist shuttles, tours, and chartered cars make exploring Jeju smooth, flexible, and completely possible, no car required WOOHOO!!
